Jem & The Holograms / Photos / Project

It seems the current theme is a little out-dated and the script is rejecting some of the stuff I was trying to do in the background but I’ve managed to add screencaptures from Ryan’s movie Jem and the Hologram and hopefully sometime this weekend we will have a new look!

Ryan Guzman has already proven that he can dance, but can he sing? The answer is not so encouraging.

Speaking to MTV News at a press day for his film “The Boy Next Door,” Guzman said he stepped out of his comfort zone to play Jem’s main squeeze Rio in the live-action “Jem and the Holograms” movie. In fact, he had never (ever!) sung before getting cast in the film.

“I sang for the very first time for ‘Jem and the Holograms,’ which is also very scary because the people I was singing with are unbelievable,” he said.

Okay, we’re sure Guzman actually sounds fine in the film. After all, producer Scooter Braun — the maestro behind Justin Bieber — has already given the soundtrack his stamp of approval. And he knows a hit when he hears one.

Based on the cult Hasbro animated series from the 80s, the rebooted “Jem and the Holograms” will follow Jerrica Benton (played by newcomer Aubrey Peeples) and her rockstar alter ego Jem, the truly outrageous lead singer of band Jem and the Holograms. And Guzman’s character Rio Pacheco is her road manager/love interest. (We can only hope their duet is as epic as this one.)

And just in case you were wondering, Guzman will not be busting moves in the film. “I think I’ve proven my dancing skills,” he said.

The music may be contagious, Jem, but the dancing definitely isn’t.

Jem & The Holograms / News / Project

New Ryan’s project Jem & The Holograms has been selected by Yahoo.com staff as one of “The 40 Movies We’re Most Excited to See this Year“. Remember the release date is October, 23 2015 with Ryan as leading male character Rio. Enjoy!

40. Jem and the Holograms
Release Date: Oct. 23
Starring: Aubrey Peeples, Juliette Lewis, Molly Ringwald, Ryan Guzman
Director: Jon M. Chu
The Scoop: Remember the 2001 movie version of Josie and the Pussycats? We wish we didn’t, but we’re very much hoping this live-action attempt at Jem — another girl-oriented cartoon staple — will make us forget it once and for all. Our optimism starts with director Jon M. Chu: With several Step Up movies and Justin Bieber documentaries under his belt, the man knows a thing or two about music and dancing, which will be key to this adaptation. The tech will surely get an upgrade, too, although we hope Jem’s trademark star earrings (the ones that allow her to bounce from pop star to record company owner) will remain intact. Based on the poster, her pink hair certainly does. Sing along with us: “Jem is excitement! Jem is adventure! Ooooh…” — Breanne Heldman
