INTERVIEW BY KAITLYN NGUYEN
Ryan Guzman heats up the screen with Jennifer Lopez in The Boy Next Door.

How were you able to land the role of Sean in the Step Up series so quickly after moving to Hollywood?
It all happened by chance, luck, and will. I came out to LA not knowing if I even wanted to become an actor at all. I just signed with the manager and just told him, “Hey, I want to go out for this role”, thinking I was going for a small role. My manager called me back and said, “Hey, you’re going after the lead.” It put a lot of pressure on me but I like pressure and I like a really, really good challenge.

What experiences have you gained from the movies you have been in so far?
I’ve gained so much just through acting alone I mean, I’ve done so many things I never thought I would do. Acting has a way of making you push yourself to certain limits and then go past those limits. I learned how to sing for Jem and the Holograms, I didn’t even know I could sing. Through this industry and through acting, I’ve been writing my own screenplays and my own short stories, and it got me into creating my own business as far as production companies.

How was it like to work with Jennifer Lopez in The Boy Next Door, especially since you were playing the fatal attraction?
It was awesome, Jennifer was always so amazing to work with. We had great chemistry on set and it was pretty easy. Everyone trusted me on making this character my own, to figure out how far the severity of his mood, and his craziness should go. Jennifer was always supportive and she helped me out a lot, especially in the intimate scene. It was a pleasure to get to know her as a person.. you push back the JLo and you get to know Jen. She’s just a very sweet, giving person.

What can you tell us about your upcoming projects? Are they truly outrageous?
I am actually working on two films at the moment, Jem and the Holograms and That’s What I’m Talking
About. I can’t really go into details about it, but Jem and the Holograms is based on this musical fantasy comedy film where a young owner disguises herself as a rockstar. That’s What I’m Talking About is a comedy movie, which is based on the lives of baseball players. I used to play baseball and it brought back so many memories – I enjoy playing baseball, so it was a great role for me to be a part of. Even being on set was just amazing, all the casts were awesome and we laugh non-stop. It’s just a great set to be on because everyone is just laughing and having fun.
